Not every cat dreams of curling up on the couch.

Some cats simply aren't comfortable with regular human affection and would much rather spend their days exploring the outdoors, watching over a barn, patrolling a workshop, or keeping an eye on the feed room.

And that's okay.

At Bayou Animal Services, we believe the right outcome should fit the individual animal—which is why we created our Barn Cat Program for cats who may thrive in a safe working-cat environment rather than a traditional indoor home.

Barn cats can be wonderful additions to barns, stables, workshops, warehouses, and other appropriate properties. Their presence may also provide natural deterrence for mice and other rodents.

But working cats aren't expected to survive on what they catch.

They still need a caretaker.

Barn Cat adopters agree to provide:

• Fresh food and clean water every day

• Safe, dry, weather-protected shelter

• An appropriate acclimation period before release

• Veterinary care when needed

• A safe environment where the cat can live and work

Our Barn Cats are prepared for placement through Bayou Animal Services, including spay/neuter and appropriate preventive care.

Most importantly, adopting a Barn Cat means giving a cat who may never enjoy traditional pet life something just as valuable:

A place where they belong exactly as they are.

These cats aren't asking to sleep in your bed.

They aren't promising to sit in your lap.

They may never want you to pick them up.

But give them a safe place to live, dinner every night, fresh water, and a little time to settle in...

…and you may just end up with the hardest-working employee on the property. 🐭
